Clear skies and light winds predicted at surface and aloft for Monday’s launch of SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket

Forecasters have predicted majorly clear skies and mild winds at the surface and in the air for launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to be held on Monday on a resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS), positive conditions for the liftoff and landing of booster at Cape Canaveral.

The US Air Force’s 45th Weather Squadron has released the official launch weather forecast on Friday, calling for a 90% of suitable conditions for liftoff at 12:45:29 am EDT on Monday.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory detects coronal hole phenomenon

Recently, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory detected a massive dark spot spreading across the sun’s surface. The astronomical phenomenon, known as a coronal hole, causes no harm. It is basically a low density spot in the corona, which is plasma layer surrounding our sun. The hole opens the sun’s magnetic field to interplanetary space producing solar wind streams that push out coronal matter.

Scientists observe what they call ‘water snow line’ for first time ever

Scientists have spotted what they call a ‘water snow line’ for the first time ever. It is the point at which the temperatures within the disk rotating around a young star fall sufficiently low to enable snow formation.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory has unveiled about a giant-sized dark spot that has been spreading across the sun’s surface. Known as coronal hole, this spot as per experts would not cause any harm.

Neighborhood beyond Neptune becomes more crowded, with discovery of new dwarf planet

The area beyond the 8th planet of our solar system is becoming ever more crowded, as astronomers have announced the discovery of another dwarf planet. A review at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii has been keeping an eye over 600 bodies in an icy debris ring, called the Kuiper belt.

Astronomers get glimpse of water snow line around a star for first time ever

A fierce outburst by the new star, V883 Orionis, has provided astronomers with the first view of a water ‘snowline’ in a protoplanetary disk. The protoplanetary disk is the transition point in the star’s surrounding where the temperature and pressure are sufficiently low for the formation of water ice.
