Australia’s National Coral Bleaching Taskforce has been carrying out aerial surveys of a broad area of the Great Barrier Reef. After conducting number of surveys, the taskforce reached on a conclusion that the iconic reef system is presently facing history’s worst mass bleaching event.

The aerial observations of over 500 coral reefs, covering roughly 2,500 miles, demonstrated that the great majority of reefs have been facing severe and extensive bleaching.

Ancient Arachnid Fossil may unveil Origin of Spiders

Researchers carefully examined a preserved fossil of an ‘almost spider’ to learn about the origin of spiders. The 305-million-year-old fossil was in Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. It was unearthed in the 1980s by a fossil hunter, Daniel Sotty, in the rock of Montceau-les-Mines.

Researchers were unable to analyze the fossil previously because a large part of it was buried in that ancient rock. Only the abdomen part of the fossil was visible.

A new study conducted by the National Institutes of Health and Ohio State University has linked intake of coffee with miscarriages. The findings of the study were published in the journal Fertility and Sterility. Researchers found that couples who drank more than two caffeinated drinks a day during the weeks before conception put women at an increased risk of miscarriage.
