China steals show by starting world’s first CRISPR trial next month

It is official now that Chinese researchers will be the first ones to start the first-ever human trial using CRISPR gene editing. From the next month, the world’s first CRISPR trial will start at the West China Hospital, Sichuan University.

The trial is going to kick-start after the hospital’s ethics board gave the permission for the same. In the trial, Chinese researchers being led by You Lu of Sichuan University will use a new gene-editing technology known as CRISPR-Cas-9.
