Rams Expected to Gain Marcus Peters

Marcus Peters Head to Los Angeles Rams

Free agency is one of the many highly anticipated aspects of life in the NFL, for many good reasons like gaining new players.

For the Los Angeles Rams, there is a lot of excitement going on and that's primarily because the team is expected to gain cornerback Marcus Peters in a trade, and even better, at a fairly reasonable price.

The Rams and Kansas City Chiefs just agreed to a trade with each other that would send Peters over to Los Angeles, with the Chiefs gaining a fourth-round draft pick in 2018 and a second-round pick in 2019 in return. In addition to getting Peters, the Rams would also get a sixth-round pick from the Chiefs in this year's upcoming draft. The trade itself was first announced on NFL Network but cannot officially take place until March 14th.

The fact that Peters will be headed to the Rams this offseason means that they will be able to replace Trumaine Johnson, the previous cornerback leading the team, without losing their own first-round pick this year. Johnson was expected to be among the many casualties of free agency for the team, but Peters coming to the team would make up for the loss, in addition to a compensatory draft pick in next year's draft as well.

Peter is in his third year in the league, who was selected to the Pro-Bowl in his first two years, as well as being selected as an All-Pro as a rookie. He has made 19 career interceptions, six forced fumbles and three defensive touchdowns in those three years. Despite this, Peters has run afoul of the Chiefs organization this past year when he was suspended for one game, after an incident where he throw an official's flag into the crowd and then stormed off of the field. This is also not the first instance where he has shown to have some issues off the field.

But even with those issues in mind, the Rams can sit comfortably knowing that they've added a big player to their mind without losing a first-round pick for the second year in a row, with last year's big named being wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who came from the Bills. Even better, Peters will be in the last year of his rookie contract and will have a fairly small cap hit this year.
