Warriors Outlast Lakers In Overtime

Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors outlasted the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night in a 127-123 overtime victory.

Superstar point guard Stephon Curry put in a subpar performance for most of the night but scored 11 points in the extra 5-minute period to end the game with 26 total points.

The Warriors would need a complete team effort to hold off the energetic young Lakers as Kevin Durant chipped in with 29 points, and Klay Thompson added 20. Draymond Green and Zaza Pachula scored 15 and 11 respectively.

The lackadaisical effort by the team for most of the night, especially on defense could be a cause of concern as the team Warriors seen prone to long periods of uninspired play. The team committed 22 total turnovers and in one three-minute third quarter stretch 6 turnovers were committed.

The game against the Lakers also marked the second consecutive game that saw an opponent shoot better than 49% from the field. This had not happened in one of the Warriors first 20 contests. But as has been seen by the Warriors team in the past, the firepower the team is capable of can often offset disinterested performance.

For the young Lakers team, the unfortunate loss was indicative of the team’s season-long woes. After outperforming, and outhustling the Warriors for a large portion of the game the Lakers were unable to execute in crunch time well enough to secure the victory.

A bright spot for the Lakers team was the play of their recently maligned rookie point guard Alonzo Ball. Ball ended the night with 15 points and 10 assists. He also provided a much-needed display of toughness when showing no decline in his level of play after suffering a gash above his left eye while diving for a loose ball.

The Golden State Warriors return to action Friday against the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center in Orlando.
