Nintendo announces “New 2DS XL” gaming device

Mobile gaming giant Nintendo has confirmed that the New Nintendo 2DS XL model will be launched in Australia and New Zealand on 15th of June, around a month ahead of its planned launch in the United States.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL will cost AU $200 in Australia. In the United States, it will be launched on 28th of July, with a price tag of $150.

Unlike the entry-level console 2DS, the New 2DS XL gaming device features a clamshell design. It will allow players to play 3DS games. However, the games will be without the 3D effect. It will also allow gamers to play DS games.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo’s America business, said, “This new addition to Nintendo's portable hardware line demonstrates our commitment to the hand-held market. New Nintendo 2DS XL sports a beautiful clamshell design and offers a great balance between price and performance.”

Nintendo announced the new gaming device less than a month after the launch the Switch, which system debuted in March and has already sold 2.74 million units by the company’s latest count.
