Fresh Express has announced a voluntary recall of a limited number of units of Organic Marketside Spring Mix, after “extraneous animal matter” was allegedly discovered in a container of the salad.
While Fresh Express only said some “extraneous animal matter” was found its way into a five-ounce container of the salad, media reports revealed that the matter was a decomposed bat, and the matter was reported by two consumers in Florida.
A company spokesperson said in a statement, “Immediately upon notification of the event, Fresh Express food safety and rapid response teams worked in close coordination with Walmart and regulatory authorities to launch an intensive investigation. Based on all available evidence, we are confident this is an isolated incident.”
The product subject to the recall has the production code G089B19 and best-used-by date of April 14, 2017, along with UPC code 6 8113132897 5, which is located on the bottom of the container.
Those who may have already bought the recalled product have been advised either to discard it or return it where it was purchased from to get a full refund. One can also call Consumer Response Center at toll-free number (800) 242-5472.
