HTC confirms that it will not announce the rumored ‘Vive 2’ at CES 2017 event

In an official statement released to UploadVR, Taiwanese device maker HTC has confirmed that it will not introduce a new version of its Vive VR headset – the supposed ‘Vive 2’ – at the forthcoming CES 2017 event in Las Vegas next week.

The confirmation by HTC that there will be no ‘Vive 2’ at the CES event comes against the backdrop of rumors that the company is probably planning to unveil a refreshed Vive version at the annual consumer electronics tradeshow.

Rumors about HTC’s possible introduction of a ‘Vive 2’ VR headset at the CES 2017 event evidently stemmed from the fact that the company had, in 2015, used CES for offering a first hands-on demonstration with the Vive Pre developer kits, which gave early adopters a first glimpse at consumer room-scale VR.

However, in confirming to UploadVR that the company will not announce the rumored ‘Vive 2’ at the upcoming CES event, HTC said in its statement: “There is no truth to the rumor of launching Vive 2 at CES 2017.”

In addition, the company also said: “At Vive, we are laser focused on building out a strong and growing ecosystem for current and future Vive owners so they can experience the best room-scale VR with the most compelling content available.”
