Elon Musk: Tesla’s new Enhanced Autopilot system is almost ready

In a Twitter post published on Wednesday, Elon Musk – CEO of electric-car manufacturer Tesla Motors – said that Tesla is closer to deploying its new Enhanced Autopilot system.

The tweet by Musk implies that Tesla’s new Enhanced Autopilot system is almost ready and will soon be rolled out by the company. Tesla had previously planned to launch the system in mid-December, but it was delayed.

The new Enhanced Autopilot system will boast the inclusion of eight surround cameras with 360-degree visibility, along with twelve ultrasonic sensors, and forward-facing radar. The system will also come with a new onboard computer for analyzing all the data.

The onboard computer of Tesla’s new Enhanced Autopilot system will have 40 times more processing power than the Autopilot system’s current onboard computer, and will run the company's Tesla Vision neural-net software for sonar and radar processing. The software has been developed in-house by Tesla.

Revealing that the "Tesla Autopilot vision neural net now working well," Musk said in his Twitter post: "Just need to get a lot of road time to validate in a wide range of environments."
