Expansion of New York’s marijuana program being seen as ‘game changer’

The latest expansion of New York's medical marijuana program is a "game changer" as it will allow thousands of people to access the drug, the Dent Cannabis Clinic's Director Dr. Laszlo Mechtler said.

Supporting the expansion of the program, Mechtler pointed out that the introduction of chronic pain as the 11th approved indication for treatment could inflate the state's current number of patients from 10,730 to nearly 200,000.

Speaking on the topic, he said, "The flood gates are going to open for a huge population of New Yorkers. And we expect the numbers we have presently, which are significant, to increase by 6 to 7-fold."

Mechtler expressed hope that the expansion of New York's medical marijuana program will help improve pain patient's quality of life by providing them an alternative to opiates.

Meanwhile, the Arkansas Department of Health has proposed new rules that would require all medical marijuana products to have detailed labels with information about their lab analysis, dosage, source as well as warnings, before entering the market for sale.
