Galaxy Note 7 was one of the best-selling products for Samsung in August and the South Korean electronics major was expecting to improve its market share in high-end smartphone segment with the latest release of Galaxy smartphone. However, things took unexpected turn when Samsung had to recall smartphones in many countries for replacement.

Many airlines banned usage of Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Earlier this month, Samsung informed customers to return their smartphones. For customers who wouldn’t return their phones, Samsung would remotely disable the devices due to security risks.

Yesterday, reports emerged that Samsung had halted production of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones. Now, Samsung has stopped exchange for Note 7. The company might completely scrap the smartphone and recall it from the market.

This isn’t only a major setback for Samsung’s image but the financial cost of this event with a massive for Samsung. The company has been struggling already to gain market share in smartphone segment which has turned excessively competitive in the recent quarters.

Samsung has not officially confirmed the plans about scrapping Galaxy Note 7 but after all the events, technology experts feel that this would be the next step. Samsung engineers could launch an upgraded version for the Galaxy Note product line in future.

In a recently issued statement, Samsung said, “Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device should power down and stop using the device.” The handset has led to fall in Samsung stock. After the failure of Note 7, Samsung has suffered loss of billions of dollars in its market capital.
